At the very heart of GATE
Village is content, and the power of the village comes from the controlled use and functionality of that content. Management means more than simple organization, it means:
- Document revision control:
- By default, most content types automatically create a new revision of an Information Object
- By default, deletion of most content types is restricted to Village and Village Neighbourhood Administrators
- Access to prior revisions is restricted to premium account holders
- Reverting to prior revisions is restricted to Virtual Office account holders
- Log entries describing new revisions
- Varied Content Types:
- Designed for specific audiences
- Allowing Content Reuse
- Fast & Easy Identification (search)
- Security
- Easy inline, browser-based, rich-text editing
- A variety of WYSIWYG editors
- A variety of Input Filter
- Automatic replication ensuring business continuity
WYSIWYG
What You See Is What You Get is
a term that is usually reserved for text editors. It refers to the
characteristic of displaying the content you are typing (more or less)
as it will appear once you publish/render your content. GATE Village offers WYSIWYG editors for many of its Input Filters for content.
Virtual Office
GATE Village uses GATE Village as its Virtual Office space. Like any company or organization, we have internal meetings, staff gatherings, and other date-based events that need to be managed.
We
have content creation, edit and review cycles -- a lot of those :-) We
create a lot of our own content, we create a lot of our members'
content -- in many cases we want content to be edited, reviewed and
approved before it is published, all of this is managed automatically
using workflows.
In short, we have a need for and utilize GATE Village technologies daily so we know how useful it is ... Read More

Administrator
GATE Village is simple to use and most Village Members will find that the interface provided is sufficient to meet their needs, but those members running a Trusted Neighbourhood and Business Premium Account holders have options available to them that they probably do not want to share with all their fellow Trusted Neighbours. These tasks are usually performed by Administrators.
The types of tasks an Administrator might do is to rename a content type, revert to a previous revision, manage who can access private pages, create SHOUTout and other special content types, and enable/disable certain functionality for users they are respsonsible for.
The main GATE Village Administrator account is called "gvadmin", the user "GATE" has some adminitrative permissionsn but is restricted from accessing many content types (associated with Trusted Neighbourhoods and Business Premium Accounts).
Village Neighbourhood
GATE
Village identifies groups within the membership of people who are in
the same region(s), providing a similar or related skill-set, and those
people who work within the same business vertical. Each identified groups is called a Village Neigbhourhood and GATE Village creates periodic marketing
campaigns and commits advertising funds for those campaigns,
proportionally allocating funds based upon the number and types of
members within each Village Neighbourhood.
Village Neighbourhoods are dynamic in nature, as the membership evolves so too will the identified Village Neighbourhoods; the number of neighbourhoods as well as the number of members within any particular neghbourhood will change over time. Indeed, any Village Neighbhourhood could cease to exist based upon the demographics of the GATE Village membership.
