Code of Ethics

 

     

  1. Respect rights of others and their property, & intellectual property – copyright, confidentiality, trademarks, human rights – language, creed, race, gender etc

  2. Stay within the rules and transactional processes set by GATEGATE -- no reverse engineering, no gaming the system, no non-sanctioned use (eg SPAM)

  3. Legal – laws of Ontario, Canada apply – don't be naughty

  4. Language – English only and “Plain speakin' folks” (refer to Waiver of Liability); GATEGATE values free speech and will not restrict Members' choice of words.

  5. Relationship – built on trust,

 

Acceptable Use

  1. This Code of Ethics applies to all users of the GATEGATE Village while working within GATEGATE Village [Resources]. Resources shall be understood to include corporate data.

  2. All users must ensure that the GATEGATE computing resources are used in lawful manner.

  3. GATEGATE expects all users to conduct themselves with high standards of professional ethics and behaviour.

  4. Your are responsible for your GATEGATE Village account and password. (EXCEPT for Trusted Vendor Accounts) your account is provided for your use only, it is non-transferable and non-sharable.

  5. Without limiting the generality of the above, some examples of unauthorized use or misuse of computing resources are:

(a) Using computing resources for purposes other than for which access was granted;
(b) Using a computer account without authorization or providing computing resources to individuals or groups without the specific authorization by GATEGATE;
(c) Inspecting, altering, deleting, obtaining copies of, publishing, or otherwise tampering with files, programs or passwords that the individual is not authorized to access;
(d) Using computing resources, particularly electronic mail, web servers and bulletin boards, to send fraudulent, harassing or obscene messages;
(e) Developing or using programs that harass other users or that damage the software or hardware components of the computing resources and/or placing any destructive or nuisance programs, such as viruses, in the computing resources;
(f) Attempting to circumvent security systems on any computing resource;
(g) Compromising or attempting to compromise the integrity of the computing resources by accessing or attempting access or alteration of system control programs or files;
(h) Using unlicensed or unauthorized copies of computer software;
(i) Breaching the terms and conditions of a software licensing agreement to which GATEGATE is a party;
(j) Theft or misappropriation of computing resources, such as equipment, data, programs or time;
(k) Engaging in any action which unfairly denies or restricts the use of computer resources to authorized users.
(l) Engaging in any activity that attempts to hide, obscure, disguise or otherwise obfuscate your identity.
